What do parents say about the program?

“Gaining biliteracy in English and Spanish has given my children a great deal of confidence in their cross-cultural interactions and has made them feel unique because they possess a powerful skill set that few of their peers share. This program is a gift!”

--Jeff McDermott, elementary school parent

“The kids received a great education! They didn’t miss a thing. The phonics base was so strong that my son transitioned to English automatically. The biggest plus for our family is that they are not only tolerant but that they have a greater respect and appreciation for other cultures.”

--Lynn Gallagher, high school parent

“Being with peers since kindergarten made the transition to middle school so easy for the students. All the friends still hang out together. They even speak Spanish at play time. My kids are more employable living in a bilingual state. They also have a better chance in higher education knowing two languages.”

--Robert Delgado, elementary and middle school parent

“We chose the program when we saw how adept the students are in third and fourth grade in writing, math and communication in two languages. That was amazing to me!”

--Anna Maria Ruffels, kindergarten parent

What do students now in high school say about the program?

“I can communicate very well with different people. I can translate for people who don’t speak English. When I go to college I will put on my resumé that I had the 2Way Language Immersion Program and that will give me an edge.”

--Vicente Sotelo

“I like the program because it will give me more opportunities in a career because here in California, everyone speaks Spanish and I can communicate with more people.”

--Bonnie Presteridge

“You get to be with and know your friends from kindergarten. Many people don’t think I speak Spanish because I speak English so well. My dad says it gives you an advantage in work because you are bilingual.”

--Luis Dena

“By the end of elementary everyone speaks English. Being bilingual is going to help me get a better job.”

-- Yairet Chavez

What do teachers say about the program?

The benefits are innumerable. This program prepares students to be bilingual and bicultural so they can participate anywhere in the world and not just this country. When students develop two languages it affects brain development. Studies show that this process helps the brain develop the ability to think at higher levels and to think more critically.”

-- Maria-Christina Walker, middle school teacher (not in photograph)

“Students in kindergarten like the program because they can communicate with their friends. They play together and learn different cultures.”

--Señora Martinez, kindergarten instructional aide
