AAA/GATE Identification Timeline |
September/October:
- Students in grades 2nd-8th take District CORE or MAP tests in the fall, and students in grades 9th-10th take STAR/California Standards tests in the spring:
- Students who meet the criteria set by the District are eligible to take the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT) or the Naglieri Non-Verbal Abilities Test (NNAT) for second language learners.
- Teachers may also nominate students to take either the OLSAT or NNAT test at their school sites in January

October/November:
- OLSAT/NNAT teacher nomination forms and checklists are distributed to teachers.
- Teachers submit OLSAT/NNAT test lists to the AAA/GATE department.

December:
- Invitations to take the OLSAT/NNAT at the school sites are mailed home to parents.
- Fee-based OLSAT testing registration forms are available to parents at elementary, middle, and high school offices. Forms are also available on the CUSD AAA website at www.capousd.org/aaa.

January:
- OLSAT is administered to qualifying CUSD students at elementary and middle school sites within the school day.
- NNAT is administered to qualifying 2nd-10th graders at high school sites within the school day.
- Fee-Based OLSAT testing registration are forms due. (The deadline date is posted on the Fee-based OLSAT registration form.)
February:
- Fee-based OLSAT testing is open to all 2nd-10th grade students and private school students on a Saturday at a designated CUSD elementary school.
- OLSAT is administered to qualifying 9th and 10th graders on a Saturday at a designated high school.

March/April:
- Parents are notified, by mail, of the results of the OLSAT/NNAT tests given in January/February.
- Parents with students who qualify for the AAA/GATE program are mailed permission slips to participate in the AAA/GATE program the following school year.

May:
- AAA/GATE panel reviews multiple measure portfolios for AAA/GATE identification.
- Parents are notified by mail of the results of the portfolio review.
- Parents with students who qualify for the AAA/GATE program are mailed permission slips to participate in the AAA/GATE Program.
- Informational meeting is held for parents of newly identified AAA/GATE students.
