If you'd like to add the room numbers to your Middle School Schedules, here is a list of the teachers and their room numbers. For P.E. classes, students should report to the P.E. locker rooms at the bottom right corner of the 400 building. We hope you plan to attend the Wildcat Welcome on August 29 between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon. Your child can walk around the classroom area to familiarize himself/herself with the layout, especially if they are new to Middle School.

From the PTA's newsletter 6/16/08

There is a new Board of Trustee’s policy requiring that next school year, all parent volunteers must undertake a background check before volunteering for school activities.  All volunteers will now be required to have the following:  1) a negative TB test or chest x-ray, 2) a Livescan Fingerprint check 3) a completed Megan’s Law check on file with our school and school district. and 4) a completed Volunteer Application Form.  A copy of the policy can be found at: http://wwwcapousd.org/board%20policies/BP%201240.pdf

Packets can be printed from the district website which is: http://www.capousd.org/parent.htm#vol

Parents will need to have completed the packets in order to volunteer.  There is a fingerprinting location in RSM!  It is "LiveScan" at the Sports Performance Academy at 30021 Comercio in RSM. Phone: 949-713-9245. No appointment necessary, hours are 9 am to 7 pm M-F and 9 am to 1 pm Saturdays.

We’ve seen great progress in the budget fight these last few months with the reinstatement of Capistrano Unified School District’s permanent teachers. However, the state budget process is far from over and we are still facing significant cuts.  The budget is still being negotiated, and will need to be passed with a two-thirds majority.   Continuing to apply pressure to our representatives could result in another $15 to $20 million in funds for our school district.  Please participate in the Capistrano PTA’s Summer Postcard Campaign.  Instructions will be posted on www.avpta.org by Wednesday, July 18th.  Contact Kathy Spencer, teamspence@cox.net or Christine Kerst, ckerst@cox.net, with questions.

The Birthday Book Club had one of the best years ever! Our library has grown by 179 books this year thanks to your generous donations to the Birthday Book Club. The PTA was also able to add close to 200 new AR tests, including some popular titles like: Diary of A Wimpy Kid and Roderick Rules, Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2, The People of Sparks and The Prophet of Yonwood, the entire Alex Rider Mystery Series including Snakehead, Mr. Putter and Tabby Run the Race, several new Magic Treehouse books, several Hank Zipzer books, The Lightning Thief, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and two new Junie B. Jones titles.

Thank you again for all of your donations and look for changes in the book club next year. We are going paperless and your selections will be made via email. Also, if you have any suggestions for books that you would like to see added to our library please email Jenny Hamilton, jenhamilton@cox.net.

See you in September!

FROM THE CUSD FOUNDATION:

Dear Parents,

The district’s Board of Trustees approved the revised recommended budget last night which provides additional money from the state per the Governor’s May Revise on May 15th to rehire most of the teachers.  They still need $1,000,000 from the CUSD Foundation to be able to rehire ALL of the teachers and preserve our current class sizes in grades K – 12.

We have already received $887,600 and have extended our deadline to June 13th to reach the revised $1,000,000 goal.  Please go to www.cusdfoundation.org to download a donation form for faxing or mailing or to pay by PayPal or Google.

From 11/14/07 - Keeping in touch with school events

WHAT’S GOING ON?

Do you ever feel like you’re left out of the loop?  Have you missed items sent home from school in your child’s backpack?  Here are a few ways you can stay in touch with what’s happening at school.  Once you visit these websites, bookmark them or add them to your “favorites” for easy access in the future.

1.  Check out Arroyo Vista’s Website at www.capousd.org/aves/
(This is the site you are currently visiting)

2.  Sign up for the Listserv System – this is a service for which you may or may not have already enrolled.  Once enrolled, any group message sent by administration will reach you via your email address.

To enroll click on this link http://www.capousd.org/listservs/elementary/aves.htm or, visit the district website www.capousd.org and follow the easy steps on the link “Sign up for school email here.”

3.  Visit the District Website - The district’s website is www.capousd.org  In addition to signing up for the Listserv system (above), this site has lots of information about our district, the schools, calendars, and links to other sites.

4.  Take a look at the PTA Website – This wonderful site has many valuable pieces of information and is the place to visit for information on PTA sponsored activities.  Be sure to check this one out at www.avpta.org.

 5.  Utilize Edline – This tool for middle school students and parents is a lifesaver as students move between classrooms and teachers.  You can track assignments and grades with a few mouse clicks.  This year we have over 95% of accounts activated, so if you’re one of the 5% who haven’t visited this site it’s www.edline.net  (Middle School Parents:  If you need an activation code, please call our office at 949-234-5951.)
