CHOOSE provides
the same CORE curriculum which is used in the Capistrano Unified School
Districts schools. Both the State of California and the CUSD Board
of Trustees have adopted this curriculum. The CORE subjects of language
arts, mathematics, science, social science and PE are offered at every
grade level. However, the types of texts and specific requirements,
of course, differ by grade level.
The following are
the specific focus areas for language arts.
Supplemental materials: writing, vocabulary, and spelling are available
in the office for parents to utilize.
Reading (K-8)
Spelling (1-8)
Writing (K-8)
Phonics (K-2)
Grammar (2-8)
Handwriting (K-6)
Listening (K-8)
Speaking (K-8)

- The following
seven strands represent the mathematics content areas: number sense,
algebra & function; measurement and geometry; statistics; data
analysis & probability; problem solving / reasoning and mathematical
computation.
- Students
have a consumable student edition/workbook.
- Supplemental
materials: calculator activities, critical thinking/ enrichment, and
additional practice lessons are available in the office for parents
to utilize.

- Science curriculum
focuses on life science, physical science, and earth science.
- A minimum of
one science experiment which demonstrates a hands on application of
the scientific method/process is required per semester.
- Supplemental
materials: study guides and tests are available in the office.

- A social science
project is required for each grade level.

States History
- The PE requirement is 100 minutes a week.
- Any physical
exercise such as walking, bike riding, swimming, etc or dance/ organized
sports can count for these minutes.
