Building Successful Students

On behalf of the Don Juan Avila Elementary School staff, welcome to the 2007-2008 school year! Our Don Juan Avila “Eagles”, students, teachers and parents have been building together since our opening in September 2000 to construct a fantastic learning community offering your child an opportunity to achieve excellence!  We look forward to another productive year of teaching and learning at our California Distinguished school!  Two very easy building blocks to success are:

1. Come to school each and everyday, on time, and ready to learn.
2. Read, read, read!!

School Starting & Dismissal Times and Class Lists
The first day of school is Tuesday, September 4, 2007. Class lists will be posted on the Multi Purpose Room windows near the lunch tables on Friday, August 31, 2007 after 4:00 p.m.  School hours are listed below.

Grades 1 through 5                     
7:45 a.m. to 2:05 p.m. every day except Thursday

Grades 1 through 5                     
7:45 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. every Thursday

Kindergarten Parents Reminder
Tuesday, September 4 at 9:00am orientation for all Kindergarten students and their parents will be held in the Kindergarten classrooms Kindergarten classroom assignments will be posted at that time.  Please park on the street.  We have no visitor parking in the staff parking lot on campus. Never park in a red zone or block another car.  Thank you for your cooperation.

How To Stay Informed
In order to save money we will have fewer announcements sent home with the students. We encourage all parents to sign up for our School ListServ mailing list program which will facilitate communication between our school and the community.  Subscribers receive communications electronically via email from the school.  To subscribe or unsubscribe yourself to our school’s ListServ, visit the CUSD’s public website: http://www.capousd.org/schserv.htm.  Scroll down on the elementary school list and click on Don Juan Avila Elementary.  Enter your email address and click join.  It’s that easy!

Sign In The Office
Safety of our students is our first concern at DJAES.  If you are going to your child’s classroom you must inform the teacher that you will be coming.  All people who are not employees or students must sign in with the office before walking on campus.  This includes recess and lunchtimes.

Drop- off , Pick –up and Parking
We would like to thank everyone for all of your support last year. It really works well when everyone follows the directions and we are able to move cars through rapidly. Remember to have your young scholars ready to get out of the car and pull all the way up to the front of school so that we can get as many cars in as possible. There is currently no place on campus where you can park and exit your car.  If you do wish to exit your car you must park on the street.

We always look forward to Back to School when the parents get to meet their Young Scholars’ teacher and hear about all the exciting plans for their academic growth.
