What
is the focus of the RIC Program?
The
goal of the CUSD Reading Instruction Certificate (RIC) is to:
Improve the learning of all students by connecting teachers to research-based strategies in literacy through a comprehensive program of professional development, and supporting them as they as they grow in their professional expertise.
How
is the certificate program structured?
Teachers
can receive their RIC Certificate upon completion of 45 hours of specific
instruction in the area of literacy. Only CUSD RIC courses taken after
March 2000 can be used to complete the RIC certificate program. There
is no required order or timeframe for completing RIC classes.
Instruction
is divided into 2 categories: RIC core classes and RIC elective classes. Please
note that the core and elective classes are different for elementary and
secondary teachers (For example, Writing III). Individuals MUST complete
appropriate level classes within their respective programs:

Guidelines |
Upon completion
of your RIC coursework, you must submit a written request for certification
to the Staff Development Office. Your transcript will be reviewed to
ensure you have met the requirements. Following this review, a copy of your
transcript will be sent to you, and then forwarded to Personnel and Payroll. |
