Announcements and Upcoming Events!

2007-2008 Schedules for Understanding by Design will be posted in September.

Understanding by Design plus Differentiated Instruction (UbD+DI) A Using Backwards Design and Differentiated Instruction to Build Powerful and Engaging Units in Grades K-12

  • Are you overwhelmed by the number of standards you have to teach?
  • Would you like to learn to combine standards and streamline your curriculum while designing powerful and engaging units?
  • Would you like to walk away with an entire unit, ready to go?

This 5-part series will teach you how to use the power and logic of backwards design to teach and assess for deep understanding. Based on book the Integrating Differentiated Instruction and Understanding By Design, the series focuses on how to use the UbD template and differentiation strategies to create an entire unit. Each session will feature a hands-on, in-depth study of a specific part of the UBD process and how/where differentiation fits in. Specific differentiation strategies/ideas will be presented throughout the series. You will learn to write enduring understandings, essential questions, performance tasks, and task-specific rubrics. By the end of series, you will have created a differentiated unit that embeds the standards and teaches for understanding. Participation in all 5 workshops is strongly recommended. Teachers K-12 are welcome to attend alone, or in grade level or departmental teams.

Note: We are "pausing" UBD classes for the 2008-09 school year due to budget cuts. Thank you for your understanding.
