Suggestions on Writing
* Provide a variety of materials such as pencils, crayons, markers and paper (regular and "fancy").
* Encourage drawing and writing through journals and bookmarks.
* Write to your child. Put notes in your child's lunch, backpack, under their pillow, in pockets, on bikes, on the TV, in any surprising place.
* Encourage your child to write letters and postcards to family and friends.
* Write messages on a chalkboard or white board.
* Let your child see you write (modeling). This means everything from letters, memos, grocery lists, cards.
* Write stories together.
* Write to your child. Let them see you make mistakes and revise.
* Keep a journal throughout the year.
* Talk with your child before they write. Prompt, praise, brainstorm, and ask questions.
* Listen to your child read his/her written work and school assignments.
* Assist your child in learning grade level spelling words.
* Always encourage and praise neatness when writing.
* Use a computer to generate stories, illustrations, and poetry.
