Language Arts-

Writing

We begin the year using the technique of sentence patterning to help the students develop the ability to write. Students will learn to write creative descriptive sentences and expand their vocabulary. As the year progresses, writing assignments will call for your child to become more creative. They will learn the main parts of a story and be able to create stories with characters, setting, conflict, and resolution. Additionally, children will be able to further develop their writing skills through the use of computers. Students will be provided with printing workbooks, but will need to practice penmanship at home as well as in weekly homework assignments. Students will engage in whole group editing through daily oral language activities. Your child will also have the opportunity to work one-to-one on the completion, revision, and the editing of his/her writing. We will be introducing the Six Traits of Writing: ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, and mechanics.
