School Overview
John Malcom School is located about
four miles from the Pacific Ocean in scenic LagunaNiguel, California. The school opened in September
1994 as an Environmental Science Academy. A rigorous and comprehensive instructional program
has been implemented that has three main areas of focus: environmental science, community
service, and character education. The Malcom staff is committed to providing a quality learning
environment that emphasizes these focal areas while meeting the individual needs of all students.
Children in grades K-5 are involved in
an academic program that includes integrated science activities. A comprehensive, well articulated sequence
of outdoor science activities has been implemented. An Environmental Science Exploratorium
is planned that will feature an agriculture center to compliment the
school's Earth Lab. The ultimate goal of the science curriculum at John Malcom Elementary
School is to help students appreciate the importance of their relationship to the environment
and all living things.
The Kids in Community Service program
at Malcom School provides students with on-going opportunities to participate in community
service. A variety of projects are presented on an individual, classroom, and school-wide
basis. An emphasis is placed on activities that are consistent with the school's
focus on environmental science and marine ecology.
John Malcom elementary school is preparing
students for tomorrow's workplace while nurturing character development, good citizenship,
and responsibility. The Malcom staff has formed a partnership with the
parent community to foster strong character values in all students. Working together,
parents and staff have implemented a comprehensive character education program that
is apparent in every aspect of school life at John Malcom.
At John Malcom Elementary School the
intellectual, physical, emotional, and moral capacities of each child is nurtured. Students
feel support for their social, intellectual, and emotional growth. The unique backgrounds and
experiences that children bring to their classrooms are recognized and celebrated.
