Dear Las Palmas Community,
Welcome to our 2008-09 academic school year at Las Palmas Elementary. Let’s work together to make this year successful, productive, and unforgettable. This year you will be learning a variety of academic and life skills. A successful life is the result of knowing how to read, write, think, and work with numbers. You also need to know how to get along with others, develop leadership skills, and create new ideas with your classmates. To accomplish these traits, we will be emphasizing the importance of character. Remember “Character is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching!” Your student handbook describes the six character traits that we expect all our Las Palmas scholars to model to other members in our school and community.
Each day is an opportunity for new academic exploration and discovery. It is also an opportunity to make connections to information you have already learned. These new learnings and connections can take place while mastering a new language, new technology, or making a new friend. However, we also need to plan for the future. This year you will be learning how to set goals for yourself. Setting goals is an important skill that will help you arrive at your dreams and change the world.
The Las Palmas teachers and staff will never give up on you! This is our commitment to you. We expect you to do your very best, be positive, be on time, be kind to others, and never give up. We will work closely with your family to support you and prepare you for middle school. We believe in you and know you will work hard to make this a successful school year.
