ART REFLECTIONS—FROM THE PTA:  This is a great opportunity for kids to express themselves through the arts.  This year the theme is "Wow," which should give your children a broad base to imagine and create their drawing, painting, photograph, film, musical composition or even dance choreography.  Entries are due October 3rd, so encourage your child to start the creative process now!!!!  Entry forms and guidelines for all categories are available at the front office - look for the binder marked with a sunflower and "Art Reflections."  All participants will be entered in a drawing and the winner will receive a surprise gift the evening of October 15th, where everyone is invited to view all the wonderful artwork.  Please contact Sloan Purcell, sloanpurcell@mac.com if you are interested in helping.

OLD NEWS AND REMINDERS BELOW:

INFORMATION REGARDING PARENT VOLUNTEERS IN 2008-2009:If you want to volunteer at school next year, you will need to be fingerprinted and TB tested.  Packets of information are available in the office.  Further information and on-line copies of the volunteer packet are available at   http://www.capousd.org/parent.htm#vol

PARKING AND TRAFFIC REMINDERS:  Establishing and continuing a smooth traffic flow is imperative. Please review the following reminders regarding our parking and traffic operations.  Only school buses are permitted in the parking lot during “closed” hours—we still have special education buses on campus.  Vehicles must stop or park on Highlands when the parking lot is closed.  For the safety of all, students and parents should always use the crosswalks and the sidewalks.  Children must be picked up promptly at dismissal.  Please follow all instructions from the Moulton staff members when they are on duty.

LOT HOURS—Mondays, Tuesday, Wednesdays and Fridays Parking Lot Closed: 7:20 a.m. – 7:45 a.m., Parking Lot Open: 7:45 a.m. – 2:05 p.m., Parking Lot Closed: 2:05 p.m. – 2:25 p.m.  Thursdays:  Parking Lot Closed: 7:20 a.m. – 7:45 a.m., Parking Lot Open: 7:45 a.m. – 12:50 p.m., Parking Lot Closed: 12:50 p.m. – 1:10 p.m.

The lower parking lot is reserved for staff members.  The upper parking lot by the front office is for visitors and handicapped parking during school hours.  Please see the front office if you have any special needs.  Vehicles in the parking lot during drop off and pick up times are not permitted to move until all buses have entered and exited the parking lot.  Please inform your relatives, friends, babysitters, etc. of Moulton’s traffic and parking rules if they are going to drop-off or pick-up your child one or more times during the school year.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.

HANDICAPPED PARKING SPOTS:  We realize parking is at a premium on campus but please refrain from parking in designated handicap spots even if you are only dropping off someone or something.  Occasionally, we have no parking available for those persons who really need access to the handicapped parking spots.  There is parking available along Highlands Avenue and in the lower lot near the fields in the area past the staff lot.

HIGHLANDS AVENUE PARKING:  Please note the NO PARKING signs on Highlands Avenue.  There is no parking in the drop-off/loading-unloading zone.  The Sheriff’s Dept. will issue tickets if cars are left unattended in those areas during the posted no parking times.

STUDENT WELLNESS/HEALTHY CHOICES REMINDER:  The District has a policy goal to promote student health and to reduce childhood obesity.  Board Policy 5030 states that “class parties or celebrations shall involve non-food items to the extent possible.”  Please help us teach students to make healthy choices by avoiding sending birthday and party treats to school that are not healthy.  Data from the most recent National Health and Nutrition Survey indicate that the prevalence of overweight and obesity among American's youth has more than doubled in the past 20 years.  Just like overweight adults, children and adolescents also experience an increase in health risks.  More than 60% of overweight children between the ages of 5 and 10 years of age already have at least one risk factor for cardiovascular disease.  Other health risks include glucose intolerance, type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, hypertension, respiratory problems and bone and joint pain. Since the school's goal is to provide the best educational experience and environment for learning to all children in the classroom, we thought it best to remind you of this Board Policy.   Parents can assist by no longer providing or offering junk food as a treat in recognition/celebration of their child's birthday in the classroom.  We have listed some creative ideas for parents to use in place of junk food to recognize their child's special day.  Birthday favors:  Erasers, pencils, stencils, rulers, read their favorite book to the class, etc.  Donations to the classroom:  Books, bookmarks, pencils, board games, balls, jump ropes, etc.  Thank you for your help with this!
