Fourth and fifth grade students have an opportunity
to be newscasters, directors, editors, and reporters on MBC
(Moulton Broadcasting Company). MBC, winner of the Best News
Format Show in California, is shown throughout Moulton School's
closed-circuit cable system.
Continuing this year, 1st - 5th grade students broadcast over the school's PA system from Mr. Vlasic's office each morning at 7:50 a.m. Each broadcast begins with a welcome by Mr. Vlasic, followed by a student-led Pledge of Allegiance, and concluded with the weather report and other student announcements. KHAWK Radio supports the English-Language Arts Content Standards that require students to write and speak with a command of English conventions appropriate to their grade level.
CUSD is recognized throughout California for its music program, which fosters creativity, effective communication, self-discipline and commitment. Funded by the district, all 4th and 5th grade students have an opportunity to participate in CUSD’s award-winning music program two days each week during the school day. Click here for a list of music stores if you would like to purchase or rent an instrument for your child. Click here for a list of private music instructors.
Funded through the Moulton PTA and a state music grant, Moulton kindergarten through 3rd grade students enjoy music instruction from a credentialed CUSD music teacher at various times throughout the school year during the day.
CUSD was awarded a grant to have a 4th and 5th grade computer lab dedicated to student writing. Moulton students enjoyed using the lab, which has Dell monitors and Apple hard-drives, for the first time during the 2006-07 school year. Students are able to access web-based artificial intelligence writing program called My Access, which is designed for use in schools and educational institutions. This award-winning writing instructional program provides an interactive learning environment, more opportunities for students to write, immediate feedback on written assignments, and targeted comments that motivate students to write, revise, and learn.
: Moulton, like all schools in Laguna Niguel and many across the country, implements the Character Counts program. Students can receive High-Five Hawk Awards on any given school day from staff members and may also win a variety of prizes in the High-Five Raffle, which is conducted over KHAWK Radio on Mondays. The Six Pillars of Character are:

-
Responsibility: Do what you are supposed to do (do the right thing), persevere (keep on trying), always do your best, use self-control, be self-disciplined, and think before you act (consider the consequences and take responsibility for your actions)
-
Fairness: Follow the rules (in the classroom and on the playground), take turns and share, listen to others, do not take advantage of others, and do not blame others carelessly
-
Caring: Be kind and compassionate (show you care), express gratitude, forgive others, and help people in need
-
Citizenship: Do your share to make your school and community better, cooperate with others, stay informed, be a good neighbor, obey laws in the community and rules while at school, respect authority, and protect the environment.
