Message from Ms Lunder

Dear Parents and Families,

Welcome to the 2007-08 season of teaching and learning!  We just completed our eleventh year as a school and have enjoyed some improvements over the summer. The CUSD grounds crew worked hard to restore our grass field to its lush green color. We have a new up-to-date sound system. Watch out at the school assemblies, our annual Variety Show and the PTA events as this enhanced sound system will send shock waves!  Technology will be our focus this year with upgrades not only in the hardware (teachers received new laptops) but new software as well. The internet-based My Access Writing Program will be implemented in fifth grade in addition to fourth grade. Writing and technology are the cornerstones of our academic program this year.

The same high expectations for student citizenship and behavior as well as the excellent academic program will continue at Oak Grove.  We will emphasize the six pillars of the CHARACTER COUNTS! Program: responsibility, caring, respect, fairness, trustworthiness and citizenship. During this past summer, the teachers have been attending professional development classes and refining their skills to even better meet the needs of your children, their students. We warmly invite all of you to join us in our endeavors in whatever way that you can throughout the upcoming school year. We know that with you as our active partners, the students at Oak Grove will all emerge as winners!

As stated before, our mission is clear and vital: To help all children learn, to learn more tomorrow than they learned today, and to learn more next year than they learned this year. The staff at Oak Grove Elementary School, in partnership with the home and our richly-diverse Aliso Viejo community and surrounding area, will always strive to assist children in realizing their full potential as responsible, productive, contributing members of society. We will provide an educational environment where students are challenged, excellence is expected, and differences are valued. We are dedicated to providing high academic standards and instilling the enjoyment of life-long learning in a safe and nurturing environment. Together, the parents and staff of Oak Grove Elementary are committed to the philosophy that all children are gifted. We are the Oak Grove Elementary School All-Stars. We believe every child is winner!

Our school exemplifies the positive results that occur when staff, parents, students, and the community work together. Teaching, learning, changing, improving--we each do all we can. We focus on the positive and work with integrity. We believe that communication between home and school is vital to our success. A 2007-2008 Oak Grove Handbook is provided in order to clarify our policies and procedures to you as well as acquaint you with our overall school programs. Please keep this handbook in a safe place so that you may refer to it throughout the year, especially the master calendar at the back of the book.

If you have any questions or comments, do not hesitate to contact the school office at any time. I, Laura Lyon, our Assistant Principal, Susan, our Office Manager, and any of our office staff are happy to assist in any way possible. Thank you for being an important member of our Oak Grove Elementary School All-Star Team, "Where Every Child is a Winner!"

Sincerely,

Margie Lunder, Principal
