 Laptop Learning at Oso Grande

Dear Parents of Students in Grades 3 - 5:

Oso Grande Elementary School is excited to be able to provide a truly unique educational opportunity for our students in grades 3-5 with our voluntary “Learning with Laptops” program, similar to that at Chapparal and Ladera Elementary Schools.  All of the schools in Ladera Ranch have entered into a partnership with the Apple Store at the Shops at Mission Viejo in order to streamline the process and to provide discounts. Therefore, all operations for families purchasing new computers and joining the program will take place at the Apple Store.

You may wish to provide your child with an enhanced education involving the use of a wireless laptop computer every day of the school year.  If you do choose to participate, there are three steps involved when joining the program.  The first is to purchase an MacBook computer.  Secondly, one should buy the recommended software for our program:  Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.) and Inspiration.  Finally, the Oso Grande Image is added (mid-August) to allow students to connect to the school network, thereby providing access to filtered Internet and printing. The laptop comes to school and goes home every day with your child, every weekend, every winter and spring break, and all summer.

Parents, please remember that you are not required to purchase a laptop computer.  This is a voluntary program. For those of you interested in learning more in regards to specifics in purchasing a laptop for your third, fourth or fifth grade student, please feel free to contact the Apple Store or your child’s teacher.

All students will have access to computers at school whereby technology is integrated into the instructional program based on our State’s and CUSD’s rigorous content and performance standards.  However, with student’s having their own laptop, the learning possibilities are endless – anytime – at school, home, or anywhere.

The outstanding Oso Grande staff and I look forward to offering your child a world-class education in our brand new state-of-the art facility.  If you have any questions regarding this program, you can contact me at jmartin@capousd.org

Sincerely,

Jayne Martin, Principal, Oso Grande Elementary School
