Kindergarten through 6
Carl Hankey Elementary School is committed
to preparing productive young citizens
for a culturally and technologically changing
society. It is our belief that students
must be taught essential language and
mathematics skills in order to excel in
our world. Our program provides a balance
of basic skills and knowledge with higher
level thinking and problem-solving skills.
Curriculum is integrated across subject
areas with an emphasis on language arts.
We believe that a student who listens,
speaks, reads and writes well will succeed
in other subject areas.
An outstanding staff at each grade level
provides a warm and caring classroom environment
full of stimulating learning experiences
for each student. Our staff uses a variety
of effective instructional strategies,
including large and small group activities.
Students have opportunities to work successfully
with others on collaborative projects,
while learning to work independently as
well.
Students use our library media center
for reading and research. A variety of
computers and other tools of technology
serve as instructional instruments for
daily written work, word processing, research,
problem-solving and skills development
in all subjects.
Our school staff works closely with parents
to help each student develop academically,
socially and physically. Personal growth
and high self-esteem are nurtured in each
student. Therefore, student recognition
is ongoing within the classrooms. Our
teachers provide frequent praise and rewards
for excellent citizenship and academic
performance. Local businesses, in partnership
with Carl Hankey Elementary, provide additional
means for recognizing students through
certificates, products and displays of
student work.
Hankey Elementary is in active partnership
with our PTA. The parent organization’s
ongoing support has provided our school
with special educational programs, assemblies,
technology and learning supplies to enhance
our classrooms. Many parent volunteers
work alongside our teachers and participate
in school events to further support Hankey’s
total program.
All of these efforts help students develop
a solid foundation in language arts, science
and mathematics. The ability to think
critically and solve problems independently,
or with others, will help prepare each
student for the rest of his or her life.
