The
new and master-planned Ladera Ranch holds
the distinction of being California’s
first connected community. Chaparral Elementary
School capitalizes on this technological
infrastructure with “e-learning”
opportunities for all students, including
our voluntary “Learning with Laptops”
program for students in grades 3 through
6.
At Chaparral Elementary, our mission is
clear and vital: to
help all children learn; to learn more
tomorrow than they learn today; and to
learn more next year than they learn this
year. Our staff, in partnership
with the home and the Ladera Ranch community,
will help students to become contributing
members of society empowered with the
skills and knowledge necessary to excel
in a changing world.
We dedicate
ourselves to providing high academic standards where students are
challenged, excellence is expected and differences are valued. We
will instill the enjoyment of lifelong learning in a safe and nurturing
environment. We are the Chaparral Champions, providing a world class
education for all children.
In setting
high standards and expectations for all students, the Chaparral
staff works with our students, parents and community to offer a
sound educational program that really works.
Our staff is
truly outstanding. We believe in the importance of student acquisition
of basic skills and the ability to use those skills in all subject
areas, including language arts, mathematics, science, social studies
and the arts. Special emphasis is placed on reading, writing, listening,
speaking, critical thinking, problem-solving and student work products
because, ultimately, students need to communicate their knowledge
with others.
Chaparral Elementary
connects people to create a sense of community, connects the curriculum
to achieve coherence, connects classrooms and resources to enrich
the climate, and connects learning to life, to build character.
We promote instantaneous e-learning with access to the Internet,
e-mail and web-based research for real-time learning.
At our school,
both students and teachers use a variety of technological resources
as tools to increase student learning throughout all areas of the
curriculum in an exciting, dynamic environment. Students use e-tools
to produce quality work products and presentations.
Chaparral Elementary
promotes strong parent, community and business involvement. This
takes the form of continual school-home communication, parent volunteers,
a great PTA, community volunteers, plus the active search for donations
and business partnerships. In essence, we build a strong sense of
community — a place where everyone comes together to promote
teaching and learning.
Ultimately,
we are working with parents to help our students exhibit —
every day and in every way — the “attributes
of true champions.” They are:
