Preschool through 5
Situated high on the
bluffs overlooking beautiful Aliso Viejo,
with a panoramic view of Saddleback Mountain
and the entire valley, Oak Grove Elementary
School opened in September 1996. Families
are invited to share in the continued
excitement of our school serving students
in preschool through grade 5.
Incorporating
a unique “baseball” theme,
Oak Grove is designed to provide students
with essential skills and a solid academic
foundation necessary for success at
every grade level and in life. Setting
high standards and expectations for
all students, the Oak Grove staff works
with the students, parents and community
to offer a sound educational program
that promotes high levels of academic
achievement for all students.
The Oak Grove staff is
truly outstanding. We believe in the importance
of student acquisition of essential skills
and the ability to use those skills in
all subject areas, including language
arts, mathematics, science, social studies
and the arts. Special emphasis is placed
on reading, writing, listening, speaking,
critical thinking, problem solving and
student work products because, ultimately,
students need to communicate their knowledge
with others.
Oak Grove connects people
to create a sense of community; connects
the curriculum to achieve coherence; connects
classrooms and resources to enrich the
climate; and connects learning to life
to build character. Oak Grove promotes
worldwide communications with secure access
to the Internet, electronic mail, and
a campus radio station, KOAK Radio, 100.5
FM.
At Oak Grove, both students
and teachers use a variety of technological
resources as tools to increase student
learning throughout all areas of the curriculum
in an exciting, dynamic environment. The
web site connects the school and families.
All-Star after-school
booster classes are offered to students
in a wide variety of academic and enrichment
areas. Our teachers offer these classes
throughout the year.
Free, Fun, Family Nights
are offered with a unique learning or
entertainment theme each month and never
an admission charge. Parents, teachers
and staff work together to ensure a great
time for the whole family and build community
relationships and connections.
Our staff and parents
work together to foster strong character
values in all students through character
education. The Character Counts program
is in place and strong at Oak Grove. Students
also have ongoing opportunities to participate
in the charity coin drive and recycling
programs to demonstrate their commitment
to community.
Oak
Grove promotes strong parent, community
and business involvement. This takes
the form of school-home communication,
parent volunteers, a dedicated PTA,
community volunteers, plus the active
pursuit of donations and business partnerships.
In essence, Oak Grove builds a strong
sense of community — a place
where everyone comes together to promote
teaching and learning.
Ultimately, our mission
is clear and vital:
To help all
children learn, to learn more tomorrow
than they learned today, and to learn
more next year than they learned this
year. We believe every child is a winner.
After all, from little acorns mighty oaks
do grow.
