A CALIFORNIA DISTINGUISHED SCHOOL
AND NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL FINALIST

Capistrano Valley High School is situated on a hilltop in Mission Viejo with a panoramic view of nearby Saddleback Mountain. Capistrano Valley serves a geographic area which includes portions of Mission Viejo, and San Juan Capistrano. Our enrollment totals more than  2800 in grades 9-12.

CVHS is an International Baccalaureate World school which has been recognized as a California Distinguished School and National Blue Ribbon School Finalist for overall excellence in academics, student achievement and athletics. Our school was also recognized by Redbook magazine for excellence.

Our school complex includes a new 2-story building with 8 classrooms and 6 new science rooms, added to our existing 10 fully-equipped science labs, a career and college planning center as well as four computer labs. The media center houses an extensive collection of books, periodicals, reference materials and audio equipment, in addition to a large bank of computers and printers for student use. CVHS boasts one of the County’s finest PE and athletics complexes featuring an all-weather track, a 50-meter pool, 2 gyms, and a state-of-the-art “field turf” stadium.

Our parent community is very involved and interested in all aspects of our school. The Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) actively supports school operations. More than 20 parent booster clubs promote co-curricular activities as well.

Academically, students are encouraged to take courses at the highest level at which they can be successful. Over 90% of our students continue to postsecondary education: 34 percent went directly to four-year colleges, 59 percent to two-year colleges, and 2 percent to technical schools. Recent Capistrano Valley High graduates are attending Yale, Duke, Georgetown, Harvard, Stanford, UCLA, UC Berkeley, the U.S. Naval Academy, and other highly competitive institutions of higher education.

Our school is nationally recognized for its numerous championship athletic teams. Approximately 40 percent of our students participate in competitive athletics. Capistrano Valley competes in the South Coast League, which is a member of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF).

In addition, students participate in a full range of activities and events designed to enhance the overall school experience. The interests and needs of our students and community are considered when planning dances, assemblies, club activities and community service endeavors. Popular clubs include Drama, National Honor Society, Character Counts!, California Scholarship Federation (CSF), Science Club and Cultures Reuniting Youth Club.

Our curriculum is structured to meet the needs and interests of all students. While emphasis is placed on a strong college preparatory curriculum, we provide opportunities for students to pursue vocational and technical paths through the Regional Occupational Program (ROP). Course offerings give practical hands-on work experience and opportunities for our students to participate in internship programs within the community. Our Academy of Technology, Math and Science offers an opportunity for accelerated learning for students whose interests lie in these areas.
