Grades: 9 through 12
Dana Hills High School is one of the most honored secondary schools in the State of California. As a National Blue Ribbon and California Distinguished School, Dana Hills received a California Digital High School grant totaling nearly $700,000. We have more than 600 computers on campus for student use. Coupled with substantial technology improvements approved by our Board of Trustees, Dana Hills is now one of the District’s most technologically advanced schools. The Dana Hills web site is www.dhhs.net.
Located near the ocean in picturesque Dana Point, the school opened in 1972 and has an enrollment of approximately 2,800 students in grades 9 through 12. At Dana Hills High, parents, staff and students are partners in education who work together to ensure that each student’s individual needs are being met. Staff members are dedicated to serving the intellectual, physical, emotional and social needs of students.
We also create a safe environment in which all students can achieve to their optimum potential. Our guidance department works closely with students and parents throughout their four years to develop academic plans for success. We work to promote an atmosphere of respect and appreciation for all. Our school’s emphasis on serving the entire student body involves a clearly articulated core curriculum, challenging course work, a strong co-curricular program, athletics, and active student involvement in their own learning.
Advanced Placement courses are offered in English language and literature, French, Latin, Spanish, biology, calculus, statistics, chemistry, environmental science, computer science, American government, American history, European history, music theory, psychology, and art history.
Our teachers and administrators collaborate to expand course offerings as interests and needs arise. A balanced program for all students provides a smooth transition from high school to higher education or full-time employment.
Dana Hills High currently implements three Tech-Prep academies which enable students to focus on career options: a Visual and Performing Arts Academy, a Health and Medical Occupations Academy and a CISCO Academy. Our school has excellent co-curricular programs, including award-winning theater productions, championship speech and debate teams, Academic Decathlon, academic competitions, Mock Trial, an outstanding school newspaper and yearbook, enthusiastic student leadership classes, and participation in the highly acclaimed Science Olympiad, a countywide competition.
In addition to such academic laurels opportunities as the California Scholarship Federation and the National Honor Society, Dana Hills students have an excellent record in interscholastic athletic competition and a wide variety of after-school sports programs.
We work closely with parent and community organizations, including Site involvement: Dolphin Force, Site Council, PTSA, SOCSA Foundation Council, Parent-Teacher-Student- Association and Dolphin Force, a foundation designed to be an umbrella fund-raising organization for all activities and booster groups.
