Located in a historic beach community
famous for its climate and surf, San Clemente
High’s current attendance boundaries
include the City of San Clemente and portions
of Capistrano Beach and San Juan Capistrano.
In 1996, San
Clemente High was noted as one of the few remaining “small
town” high schools in Southern California. In 1999, we were
nominated as a National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department
of Education.
The 2002-03
school year is our fifth year as an International Baccalaureate
(IB) School. Select students pursue a prestigious IB Diploma as
part of a challenging two-year academic program, which is recognized
by universities and colleges throughout the world.
Our community
takes pride in being involved in a wide variety of school activities,
from conducting the homecoming parade on the city’s Avenida
Del Mar to hanging banners announcing campus events across El Camino
Real. Any school event is likely to be standing room only with supporters
from all segments of our community, including merchants, schoolchildren,
retirees, neighbors and parents. We benefit from an extremely high
level of parent and community support through our PTSA, booster
clubs and business partnerships.
Our teachers
enthusiastically guide students through a rigorous and rewarding
course of study. As a result, 92 percent of our 2002 graduates plan
to pursue post secondary education. Additional personalized support
and guidance are provided by academic advisors who meet with freshmen
and their parents to design a four-year educational plan tailored
to each student’s post-secondary goals. Further, our on-site
Regional Occupational Program (ROP) career guidance specialist continues
the personal approach by reviewing college and career goals of students.
Our graduates
have been accepted into prestigious universities and colleges including
M.I.T., Harvard, Princeton, Johns Hopkins, Brown, Duke, Stanford,
Juilliard, Cornell, USC and various UC campuses.
Advanced Placement
courses are offered in biology, chemistry, physics, computer science,
calculus, statistics, European history, American history, American
government, economics, psychology, music theory, English language,
English literature, French, Spanish and German. Special student
offerings include the Accelerated Academic Achievement (AAA) program,
Associated Student Body (ASB), Student Senate, National Honor Society,
California Scholarship Federation, and Model United Nations. Our
students have been widely recognized in Academic Decathlon, Mock
Trial, yearbook, automotive technology, newspaper, cheerleading,
music, art, photography and drama.
A California
Distinguished and International Baccalaureate School Twenty-three
sports are available for students. Tritons are always top contenders
in the competitive South Coast League of the California Interscholastic
Federation. Championship teams and national recognition reflect
the enthusiasm and ability of players and coaches alike.
Our classrooms
contain outstanding instructional support, including equipment and
technology to enhance educational experiences for students. Our
school has a state-of-the-art multimedia research center and computer
labs.
San Clemente
High School’s closed campus is safe and quiet, with a strict,
consistent dress code and zero tolerance toward truancy. Our students
excel in calm surroundings on San Clemente High’s spacious
seaside campus.
