Tesoro High School opened its
doors in the fall of 2001 and had its first graduating
class in 2004. An extensive program in
academics, including college prep and
Advanced Placement courses, special education
services, and fine and performing arts,
is being offered.
Tesoro provides its students
and staff with state-of-the-art technology and computer access.
Instruction and learning is supported by specially designed classrooms
for physics, advanced mathematics, industrial technology, digital
photography, video production, graphic arts, CAD/CAM, and several
computer labs.
An academy integrates science, math
and career information to assist students to prepare for their future
studies. It is called the Industrial Design and Engineering
Academy and has a central focus in robotics. The academy occupies classroom space in the technology building, with classrooms
designed for the specific curriculum. Students who desire careers
in industrial design and engineering receive both practical
and theoretical preparation to assist them in selecting an entry
point into their future careers.
A full range
of co-curricular activities are available to students who attend
Tesoro. Beginning in the 2002-03 school year, athletic teams will
competed in the Pacific Coast League at the varsity level. Activities
included Associated Student Body (ASB), pep squad, musical groups,
drama and other extra-curricular interests.
Named after the Spanish word for “treasure,”
the goal for Tesoro is to become the “gem”
of South Orange County. The school’s
philosophy is that students will be challenged
to meet high expectations at the same
time that they are encouraged and supported
to meet these standards. Personalized
support and guidance are provided by a
school psychologist, school counselor
and academic advisors. The vision is that
students will be actively engaged in meaningful
career-oriented learning experiences,
that teachers will enthusiastically guide
students through a rigorous and rewarding
course of study, that parents will be
supportive and involved, and that community
members will be partners with the school.
