A California Distinguished School

Grades: 6 through 8

The staff at Las Flores Middle School works together to help students thrive during their middle school years. The years between elementary school and high school are filled with changes and choices for middle school students. Our staff is there to assist and guide students through an exciting and challenging academic experience.

Las Flores School opened in the fall of 1997 and is nestled in the growing Las Flores community. We are proud of our new recognition as a California Distinguished School. Our students have the opportunity to use a variety of technological resources in all subject areas. A highlight of our technology resources is a high-tech lab, which includes a virtual reality flight simulator. Students are encouraged to expand their abilities to include the use of computers, on-line services, video, laser discs and camcorders in their assignments.

The curriculum at Las Flores is challenging and offers students a broad foundation of skills. Students are asked to think critically to solve problems in each class. Teachers work together to create learning situations across the curriculum in order to provide a broader variety of classroom activities. Communication skills, demonstrated through writing and speaking, are incorporated into all areas of study.

Electives offered at Las Flores include foreign language, art, music, drama and other exciting and enriching activities that will enhance young people’s lives both academically and socially.

Our teachers realize the importance that middle school years have on student performance in high school and beyond. The Las Flores staff creates and maintains a safe, nurturing environment for all students, giving each child the optimum opportunity for success. A Homework Club and intervention classes in math and reading are available to assist those students who need extra help.

Reading is a priority at Las Flores; all students read independently for 19 minutes every day. We also work closely with our family of elementary and high schools to make sure that our students have the best possible middle school experience.

Las Flores Middle School welcomes and encourages parental and community involvement, with a focus on helping young people attain their highest potential.
