A CALIFORNIA DISTINGUISHED SCHOOL& GOLDEN BELL AWARD WINNER

Grades: 6 through 8

Shorecliffs Middle School is recognized as a California Distinguished School and a proud recipient of a prestigious Golden Bell Award for program excellence from the California School Boards Association. We are devoted to creating an educational environment that assists students in developing skills for lifetime success.

Our programs reflect a celebration of diversity, an appreciation of the arts and development of lifelong learning skills. Shorecliffs is dedicated to providing students with a challenging academic program, a comprehensive electives program and a variety of activities that promote active involvement. Shorecliffs has a student-centered approach that creates a community of learners.

Our staff is committed to supporting teaching strategies that are effective with middle school students. Our programs help students move easily from sixth to eighth grade, deepening and broadening the scope of instruction as each year builds on the growing maturity and experiences of our students. Shorecliffs is the link between the elementary and high school years, and as such, we work closely with elementary and high school colleagues to provide the necessary transition.

The Shorecliffs staff works in teams to unite different subject areas and provide a unique experience for our students. Themes, projects and other forms of hands-on, real life experiences are a big part of the Shorecliffs curriculum. We want to ensure that no students fall through the cracks and that instruction is reinforced in all disciplines.

At Shorecliffs, there is a strong emphasis on student involvement. Such programs as Peer Assistance Leadership (PAL), Associated Student Body (ASB), intramural sports, clubs, newspaper and yearbook, and conflict mediation provide a variety of avenues for all students to get involved. Our school wide recognition program spotlights students for perfect attendance, honor roll, increased grade point averages, Gotcha Drawings, and Student and Citizen of the Month.

Other examples of student recognition are academic rallies, talent show, daily school wide announcements and various ASB activities. School wide assertive discipline, as well as individual classroom behavior standards, form the basis of a safe school environment. There are campus monitors during school hours who help maintain a safe and secure campus. There is also an active Safety Committee that works in conjunction with our custodial staff to provide physical plant safety and direction for all emergency situations.

Parents at Shorecliffs are encouraged to become active partners in their child’s education. Parents serve on school site committees, participate in the PTSA, volunteer in classrooms, chaperone field trips, help with concerts and performances and attend night classes on parenting offered at the school. The staff always has an open ear for parental suggestions, ideas or concerns. Shorecliffs Middle School, like all adolescents, is ever-growing, seeking new challenges and strategies for success, and always ready to pursue opportunities. Come and join us. Together we make a difference!
