San Diego Travel Presentation
Project
Thursday, April 12,
2002
The students in the advanced
computer class created a travel presentation project about San Diego.
David J. Smollar, Capistrano
Unified School District Director of Communications, heard the news
about their presentations. He contacted NBC News in San Diego. The
reporter from NBC News visited Shorecliffs Middle School
and spent two hours filming the students' giving their San Diego travel
presentations. They also interviewed
many students about their projects and their future in technology.

2000/2001 Highlight Projects

Promotional
Video for Kona World
The advanced
technology class created a 30 minute promotional
video for Kona World during
the 3rd quarter. The video was summited and evaluated by Kona. The
students used advanced programs such as Macromedia, SoundJam and Photoshop.
This project was very exciting because the students not only learned
how to use timelines, but integrated and overlapped sounds, graphics
and text as well. They also incorporated slogans to promote kona bikes.
We had fun and the finished video looked very professional.

Our Town
Web Site Competition
Congratulations
to all advanced technology students for winning 2nd place in the Our
Town Merit Competition during
2nd quarter. The students used pure HTML codes learned from webmonkey.com,
webteacher.org and logos and
text from cooltext.com. They
also used computer programs such as KPT Bryce, Photoshop and Graphic
Converter. We learned many interesting things about our community.

Foreign City Web Quest Project
Due date: June 8, 2001
Presentation Dates: June
11-15, 2001
PART #1 - The City - (50 points)
- Build a major city outside of the USA with a population of more than
1,000,000 using SimCity.
First, you will need to find and print a map of a foreign city that
you would like to build and duplicate. You may use the internet, library
almanac or encyclopedia to find a city map of your foreign city. Next,
you must use Sim Cityıs Urban Renewal Kit and Map Editor before you
start building your foreign city. Finally, you will be graded on your
Sim City by how close it resembles the actual city (e.g., geographic
landscape, buildings and economy). Label (with the sign tool) all major
landmarks including rivers, stadiums, historical buildings, parks, districts,
etc.
PART #2 - The Web Quest - (100 points)
- Use HyperStudio to create the demographics, pictures and vacation
itinerary cards for your foreign city. Use several Internet search engines
to research information about your city. Complete each HyperStudio card.
Get your text logos from cooltext.com or TypeTwister. You will need
to research the demographics of your city (such as cultures, education,
economics, transportation, crime rate, military, etc.). Again, try to
use several different search engines to find information about your
foreign city. Finally, as a traveler from the USA with a vacation budget
of $1500, you will need to plan an 5 day vacation excursion including
the airline fares, accommodations, restaurants, transportation, entertainment
and points of interests. You will need to support all of your findings
by citing the web sites. This web quest project will be presented to
your teacher and peers during the second week in June.
