The district offers a summer school program for students who need additional academic support in order to meet grade level standards, or to pass the California High School Exit Exam, or who may be retained under state laws adopted in 1998. The state Legislature requires that school districts address student remediation and retention through summer school programs. The elementary summer school program—the Summer Academy for Intensive Learning (SAIL)—is targeted at reading skill development and reinforcement. The middle school summer program is designed to provide remediation for students who are unable to meet promotion standards. The high school summer program emphasizes academic preparation for those students who are not achieving at an appropriate level and/or still need to pass the California High School Exit Exam. For more information, contact your child’s teacher or academic advisor at the high school, or call (949) 234-9251.
