DATES: Monday, June 23, 2008 through Thursday, July 31, 2008 (24 Days) Capistrano Valley High School will be hosting the remedial Summer School program for all Capistrano Unified School District students’ entering grades 10-12. Students are eligible to attend this remedial program if they are:
Courses will be offered contingent upon sufficient enrollment. Due to funding and staffing limitations, it may not be possible to accommodate every student who applies for Summer School. Waiting lists will be established for Summer School as necessary. ATTENDANCE: Regular attendance throughout the 24-day session is mandatory. In order to earn credit, students may not have more than ONE absence per each twelve-day semester. Students will be dropped from the class on the second absence within twelve days. Students arriving to class after the first half hour will be marked absent. Excessive tardiness will affect student achievement and continued enrollment. Three tardies are equivalent to one absence so it vital that the student arrive to school on time daily. Attendance will be taken every hour to meet state attendance requirements. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS GRANTED TO THE ATTENDANCE POLICY. REGISTRATION: Registration forms will be available in the Guidance Office at your school shortly. Students entering 10th, 11th, or 12th grade must attend the Capistrano Valley High School Summer program. Incoming freshmen must attend their Fall 2008 home school. Correctly complete the registration form and return it to your academic advisor as soon as possible. Please verify with your academic advisor that you have the listed the correct course number and semester that you need to repeat. The remedial timeline is as follows: 1st Semester (Fall courses) Monday, June 23rd - Thursday, July 10th (12 days total) DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION IS FRIDAY, MAY 16, 2008 LOCATIONS AND SCHOOL ASSIGNMENTS:
OTHER SUMMER OPPORTUNITIES: ADULT EDUCATION: High school students, who are fully enrolled in the high school summer program and are at least 16 years of age, may enroll in the Capistrano Adult School Learning Center program to retake classes previously failed. The Learning Center mirrors the traditional high school summer calendar, with sites and times to be determined in May. Students must obtain a referral and a summer school schedule from their “home” high school prior to enrollment in the Adult School program. SADDLEBACK/IRVINE VALLEY COLLEGES: The 2008 Saddleback and Irvine Valley College Summer School sessions provide a unique opportunity for CUSD students to accelerate their college education while still completing high school diploma requirements. Summer School brochures are being completed and will be available in April to all CUSD high school students through their academic advisors. This brochure will highlight approved courses and will outline registration procedures for CUSD students. ROP: Students may enroll in Regional Occupational Program (ROP) courses for high school elective credit during the summer session. ROP course schedules will be available in the academic advisor’s office in April. ONLINE COURSES: Students may enroll in Internet-based courses that are approved by the Board of Education to satisfy CUSD graduation requirements. A list of approved courses and institutions is available in the academic advisor’s office. PLEASE NOTE: Students who wish to enroll in any of these alternative programs must receive written approval from their academic advisor prior to enrolling in the course. |
