Dear Website Visitors,
Welcome to our school’s website. I would
like to share a little information about our school. Truman
Benedict Elementary School (TBES) is located near the Pacific
Ocean, nestled among rolling hills in the historic "Spanish
Village" of San Clemente. Our school is in an ideal location
to explore nearby cultural centers, museums, missions, and
beaches. Benedict is part of the Capistrano Unified School
District (CUSD), one of the most successful and fastest
growing districts in California. TBES has been a strong part
of the community for many years. Benedict alumni now proudly
bring their own children to the same school they attended as a
child. This creates a strong sense of pride and energy that
radiates from the school campus as teachers, parents, and
students work together to call Benedict "home".
Named after a local community hero in
education, Truman Benedict is a
former teacher, superintendent and mayor of San Clemente. He
often visits to share his stories. Read more about him on our
website.
We are the Benedict Bobcats. Huge paw
prints on blue canopies greet you as you enter our campus.
These paw prints represent our school motto, "Anything is sible". It is
our mission to ensure that every student understands that
his/her future is limitless and they can achieve whatever they
set out to do. We endeavor to educate every child by ensuring
that each student masters a concrete educational foundation of
basic skills within each subject area and is able to apply
these skills confidently in both academic and non-academic
situations. This also includes physical, creative and social
aspects of learning. Meaningful instruction remains with
children throughout their lifetime as evidenced by former
students reflecting on their fond memories of TBES.
Challenging academics are a major focus of
TBES. With a reputation of high standards, our students are
expected to perform at equally high levels. Visual and
Performing Arts are an integral part. Grades K-3 participate
in singing, dancing, and acting through weekly classroom
activities. Grades 4-5 choose between strings, vocal music or
band to study twice a week. The Art Masters Program is
provided on a monthly basis for all K-5 students to learn more
about important artists while creating their own project with
the guidance of qualified art instructors. Each grade level
creates two ceramic projects and fires them in our school kiln
under the direction of a retired art teacher, Mrs. Waldo, who
volunteers her time for this and weekly art classes for all
fifth grade classes. Technology is supported with a computer
lab, software and wireless internet. Collaboration with our
neighbor, Bernice Ayer Middle School offers many opportunities
for sharing between staff and students. A key strength of our
school is the positive, safe climate that has been established
through the development of our " 's" school-wide
behavior support system. All students are reminded daily of
our theme through the "Benedict PAWsibility" reward tickets,
our classroom posted Benedict Behavior Matrix, CHARACTER
COUNTS! Program, and our Benedict Bobcat Pledge song (sung to
the tune of the ABC song):
Polite and kind we'll always
be Accept responsibility Work smart, it's fun to
do Stop and think in all you do... If you follow these
" 's"
rules You will be a SUCCESS AT SCHOOL!
Yes, we truly
believe..."Anything is ssible”.
I hope this helps you become better
acquainted with Benedict Elementary School. Thanks for reading
about us.
Sincerely,
