TK Administrative Placement Requests
As with elementary grades, students are expected to enroll at their school of residence. However, families may request a "TK Administrative Placement Request" to attend a school other than their local school of residence. The window to make a "TK Administrative Placement Request" is March 6 - April 7
To submit a TK Administrative Placement Request:
- Requests must made to: ECPTK@capousd.org
- Requests must include: the full name of the student, the school of residence, which requested school and why the request is being made
- Requests must be made during the request window of March 6 and April 7
Requests will be reviewed after the window closes. The office of Safety and Student Services will send out follow-up communication to families about the outcome of their request. Please note that the District has an obligation to serve children within boundaries first. If the administrative placement request is approved, this placement is only for one-year.
Kindergarten-Eligible Students Who Wish to Apply for TK
Kinder-eligible students whose birthday falls between June 1 and September 1 may apply for TK. It is important to note:
- Applications will be reviewed in May/June
- There is an obligation to serve all TK-eligible students first
- Students may be accepted into TK if space allows
Steps to Apply:
1. Submit an “Intent to Register in Transitional Kindergarten for the ’23-24 School Year” form via https://webapps.capousd.org/TKApplication/
2. "Intent to Register" forms will be reviewed by the Early Childhood Programs office in May/June 2023, and placements in a TK class will be made based on availability.
Every attempt will be made to place in the child's school of residence. If the school of residence is not available, but another school has space in their TK program, the child will be placed in the available program.
3. Once a student is placed into a TK program, a placement letter will be sent by the Early Childhood Programs office via email to the family which outlines the next steps to be taken in the registration process. Families will finalize the enrollment process at the assigned school site, bringing their placement letter and necessary documentation (as outlined in the email).

Steps for Enrollment
Currently, the TK Enrollment Process begins with our Early Childhood Programs office, and continues with the assigned school site. In order to complete your enrollment for TK, please complete the following steps:
1. Submit an “Intent to Register in Transitional Kindergarten for the ’22-23 School Year” form (see below)
2. On your Intent to Register in Transitional Kindergarten for the ’22-23 School Year” form, please indicate a first choice school and a second choice school.
3. Intent to Register forms received after February 25, 2022 will be reviewed, and placements in a TK class will be on a first-come/first served basis, based on availability. Please note that every attempt will be made to place in a family's first choice or second choice school. If neither of those schools are available, then child will be placed in the next nearest location to the school of residence that has space.
4. Once a student is placed into a TK program, a placement letter will be sent via email to the family which outlines the next steps to be taken in the registration process. The placement letter must be submitted to the assigned school site, along with the other required documents, in order to complete registration.
5. Families may contact our Early Childhood Programs office to request to be added to a waitlist for first choice and second choice schools if those options were unavailable at the time of registration.
