CYBERBULLYING

Cyberbullying includes the electronic creation or transmission of harassing communications, direct threats, or other harmful texts, sounds, or images as defined in Education Code § 48900. Cyberbullying also includes breaking into another person's electronic account and assuming that person's identity in order to damage their reputation.
 
Malicious or otherwise inappropriate use of generative Artificial intelligence (AI), AI-powered tools, or any other technological means, to create, modify, or disseminate written work, language arts, graphic arts, photography, audio or video media, to circumvent content moderation systems, or to extort, impersonate, threaten, harass, defraud, deceive, shame, exploit, or in any other way harm or victimize others, may be considered bullying or cyberbullying, and may result in suspension or expulsion, depending on the severity of the incident, and in alignment with California Education Code.

BULLYING DEFINITION:

Bullying is ongoing unwelcome, pervasive, severe, verbal, written or physical conduct directed at a student or staff member by a student or staff member that has the effect of any or all of the following:
 
  • Physically, emotionally, or mentally harming a student or staff member.
  • Damaging, extorting, or taking a student or a staff member's personal property.
  • Placing a student or staff member in reasonable fear of physical, emotional, or mental harm.
  • Placing a student, or staff member in reasonable fear of damage to, or loss of personal property.
  • Creating an intimidating and/or hostile environment that substantially interferes with a student's educational opportunities or the ability of a staff member to perform his or her duties
 
BULLYING EXAMPLES:
  •  Hitting, tripping, shoving, pinching, and excessive tickling
  • Threats, name-calling, racial slurs, and insults
  • Demanding money, property, or some service to be performed
  • Stabbing, choking and burning
  • Humiliating target(s) in front of friends
  • Manipulating friends and relationships
  • Sending hurtful or threatening email or notes
  • Blackmailing or terrorizing
  • Utilizing a website or social media to taunt, embarrass or degrade a target
