Early Childhood Center
The Early Childhood Center (ECC) at Del Obispo is located at 25591 Camino Del Avion, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675, in the historic and vibrant community of San Juan Capistrano. Our campus is co-located next to Marco Forster Middle School and serves children from birth through Transitional Kindergarten age. Enrollment in our specialized programs is based on eligibility for special education services and recommendations made by each child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) team.
The mission of the Early Childhood Center is to identify each child’s unique abilities and needs and provide a program that supports success in age-appropriate educational, home, and community settings. Our program planning and instructional practices are grounded in the belief that high expectations and individualized support lead to greater success. ECC teachers, speech-language pathologists, psychologists, and administrators are highly trained educational professionals credentialed by the State of California.
Specialists in occupational therapy, physical therapy, vision, orientation and mobility, audiology, and health services collaborate with teachers and staff to provide services for our children. Paraeducators are also trained to support classroom programs and promote student learning and independence.
Children at ECC learn in natural, activity-based environments. Activity-based intervention is a collaborative approach that embeds instruction related to each child’s individual goals and objectives within meaningful classroom activities and routines. Curriculum and instruction are aligned with the California Infant-Toddler Learning and Development Foundations and the California Preschool/Transitional Kindergarten Learning Foundations (PTKLF) and support the individual goals identified for each family and child.
Our children participate in the general education curriculum, extracurricular opportunities, and other non-academic activities alongside their peers all with the support of our Booster Club and families!
Adaptive equipment, specialized materials, augmentative and alternative communication devices, and individualized strategies are used throughout the school to enhance access, participation, communication, and learning.
