Board Policy and Administrative Regulation Overview

The primary responsibility of the Board is to set a direction for the District. The Board develops and maintains education policy. Policies guide the Board and District staff to make important educational decisions.

What is a Board Policy (BP)?

Board Policies are defined as general guidance for effectively operating the school district.

Reflect principles that guide staff as they carry out their duties.
Reflect principles intended to promote progress toward the District’s goals.

What is an Administrative Regulation (AR)?

Administrative Regulations are defined as regulations that guide how the staff implements and enforces the board-approved policy.

District staff develops and approves Administrative Regulations that directly support the Board’s Policies.
The Administrative Regulations provide specific procedural steps for carrying out a policy.
Procedures are specific rather than general, translating the basic policy into action by designating how, by whom, where, and when certain actions are to be carried out or limited.

What are Board Bylaws (BB)?

Bylaws are rules adopted by an organization to govern its members and regulate the operations of the school district.

Bylaws guide the roles and responsibilities of Board Members and rules and procedures for conducting Board meetings.
Bylaws are developed in accordance with local, state, and federal law.
