Admissions Requirements

As a result of the work begun in the early 1990s, today California public universities use the same procedures and policies for the admission of matriculating freshman students.  Although California private universities and colleges may have slightly different requirements, in general, if students follow the three areas required by California public universities they will easily meet more than 90 percent of what may be required.  Some California private universities and colleges do require personal, on-campus interviews.

If a student is interested in entering the University of California (UC system) or The California State University (CSU system)  as a freshman, they must complete 15 A-G courses. These 15 college-preparatory courses (A-G courses) must be completed with a letter grade of C or better. For courses completed during Winter 2020 through summer 2021, UC will also accept a grade of CR (credit) and P (pass). You must complete at least 11 of these courses prior to the beginning of your last year of high school.

UCs and CSUs will not consider SAT or ACT test scores when making admissions decisions or awarding scholarships. If you choose to submit test scores as part of your application, they may be used as an alternative method of fulfilling minimum requirements for eligibility or for course placement after you enroll.
